Every marathon runner knows "the wall." That heavy-legged, foggy-headed stretch somewhere between mile 18 and 22 where your body turns against you. You slow down, your form falls apart, and finishing feels like a negotiation rather than a plan.

Most runners blame the wall on not eating enough. And they're half right. But the real problem usually isn't how much fuel they took — it's when they started.

Notice the pattern: faster runners start earlier and take more. That's because higher intensity burns through glycogen faster and leaves a narrower margin for error. But every group starts well before mile 5.

The pre-race breakfast sets the clock
